This week the organisers of Dance Your Blues away were back at JLC Dance first launched on the 5th April 2017.
Non Dancers were selected from applicants all who were representatives of the UK Emergency & Essential Services they were been given 6 months to learn to dance. Following this time, they gathered in Blackpool on the 22nd September for the grand competition which saw 3 finalist chosen by the judges.
On the evening of the 23rd September, the three finalist competed in the world famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom, in front of 500 guests at the Our Blue Light Charity Ball – where our Dance Your Blues Away 2017 champion was crowned.
I was thrilled to help coach some of the couples and to be the head judge yes the Len Goodman of the event.
Having been approached earlier in the year to help at this event and as my first job was a nurse in the mental health sector how could I say no, so over the next few months I meet a number of dancers and have coached 4 couples for this great charity.
I had great fun teaching a number of dancers and choosing the music, steps and story they will be dancing. The couples were all lovely and very dedicated to both the dances and the cause, they gave up many hours to rehearse and practice over the months and were all looking forward to the competition. This year will be even more fun as my new business partner and winner of last years event will be working with me as judge and is also choreographing a special dance for the event. with Graham Vernon.
